Mentoring:  A different approach to ministry finances.

A mentorship is a supportive relationship established between two individuals where knowledge, skills, and experience are shared

The traditional way for ministries to raise money for their projects is do just that: raise money. They hold dinners with envelopes under the plate, they send letters, make phone calls, they canvass by speaking at churches. All good. Nothing wrong with it.

There are people out there too who really have money to use in projects like ours are the people who wouldn’t give it to a ministry who’d blow it all in the purchase of an airplane only to watch it rust on the tarmac with no money to fly it.  Anybody who would give to that type of plan obviously inherited the money or won it in the lottery.

Business people like competence.  Competence makes money.  Business people like giving money to competent people.  People with money know how to use their money to make more money.  They’re good at it too. They can make 5% monthly which is way better than Merril Lynch. They know how to do it consistently.

(This is going somewhere,We promise).

Let’s just assume someone likes our vision, has money because he’s earned it, and wants to donate $500K. Great. We'll take it. We could do a “Plan A” which We mentioned before; blow the money and look at my airplane. Or, We could choose “Plan B” which is taking the money but, with strings attached.

We know that there are tremendous opportunities out there which can cause ‘seed’ money to grow and fund a ministry perpetually so that the dinners would be nice but, not needed.  Those opportunities include Real Estate, stocks, options, gold trading, Forex, Tax Liens, the list goes on.  Wouldn’t it be cool to take that seed money and use it to make more money to do more things all the while, preserving the original donation?   Wouldn’t it really cool if the person who knew how the money was made in the first place had a part in making that new money? Would that make some sense to a donor?

Let’s take our $500K donation. Let’s use only half of it and leave the other half in cash or something else liquid.  5% of $250, 000 is $12,500.  With 12K a month, or less; let’s even say $8,000 a month, We can finance a pretty good airplane to fly people and supplies and get some smaller airplanes to fix up to give away. We can employ some retired mechanics who only need a reason to get off the couch again and We can couple them with some young people who want to get some hands on training on airplane maintenance.

All the while, we’ve preserved the donation. That’s only by using half of the donation too. If we want to use it all or most of it, we can do that too.  .

Wementioned the “strings attached”.  Let’s say the donor likes the vision, has the money and wants to give. We said competence makes money and money people like competence.  Competence comes through knowledge and experience.  Who has that competence?  The person who made the money has the competence.

We have some competence.  We know a bit about investing and know a whole little more about aviation.  People who donate money to causes don’t always want to know the fine details of the ‘what’s ‘ as much as the ‘how’s’.  (HOW is my money being used?).We know what airplanes to buy, We know how to fly etc etc.  What would be really great is if someone who was willing to give us $500K would teach us how they made the money in the first place.  Wouldn’t it be great if they had the opportunity to look over our shoulder and guide us in the right direction through mentorship?  Do you think someone would appreciate the opportunity? Wouldn’t that show honor to them as well?

In this way, Destiny Ministries not only receives a donation but the receives knowledge and understanding with it.  We do ministry, preach, give away stuff and all the while learn how to make the thing grow without have to do dinners.  We can also then mentor someone else to do the same thing. We like that.  We think that’s really good, actually.  The Bible says for us to gain knowledge and understanding.  So, all the while We're doing a Bible principle.  That’s really, really exciting!!

This way, Wecan still accept the $25 donation with gladness.  We'll use it to work alongside the rest.
